An important service
of the Alexsan Resource Centre is the Life Line
Counselling Centre. Assistance is given
to members of the community who have been
traumatised by domestic violence. In
addition, a significant number of attendees are
women who suffer from deprivation arising from
lack of maintenance, food and other basic
needs.
The Alexsan/Life Line Counselling
Centre is making an important contribution to the
overall 'wellness' of the Alexandra
community. Family mediation and the efforts
of the Centre are supported by radio counselling
programmes, anxiety and depression support groups,
peer counselling training programmes, the
placement of mentally retarded youths and adults
and victim support programmes.
At the end of the 2010 financial
year the total management of the Counselling Centre
was handed over to Lifeline.
